Kroger's/Fry's and eCoupons

I received an email yesterday from P&G eSaver saying that the ecoupons aren't going to load onto Kroger shopper cards as of Dec 31, 2009. I was very disappointed. I enjoy the added savings those ecoupons provide! So, this morning I decided to check the new ad for the Fry's (Kroger) where I shop and was pleased to see an "Introducing an All New Digital Coupons" block. I clicked on it and they are now doing their own digital/ecoupons. All you have to do is log in and load. It is very simple. They are allowing up to 100 digital coupons to be loaded on to your card.

For now, Shortcuts, Fall Savings, and Cell Fire still have ecoupons available to load on Kroger cards. If this changes, I'll be sure to let you know!

Coupons: Getting Started

For those of you that are just getting started with clipping coupons and saving money, here are a few tips!

Tip #1 Getting Started

Start collecting those coupons now. I clip a lot of coupons that I don't think I'll need at the time of clipping, but later am glad I did. Since I started this "craze" as my hubby calls it, we have tried several new products and we like them! The reason...with coupons matched to a sale, they are cheap or even free! We have picked up deodorants, toothpastes, toothbrushes, rice, snacks, etc for next to nothing. We have 5 kids in our family and this stuff will definitely get used! We are discovering that trying new things is definitely a good thing! We've been pleasantly surprised.

Tip #2 Coupon Organization

There are several different ways to clip and/or organize your coupons. I've personally tried several! I believe that everyone is different and what works for me may not work for you and vice versa. Here are the ways I've tried. I purchased a zippered 3 ring binder (on clearance, of course!) and baseball card holders. I then organized my coupons into categories that made sense to me. I had sections for breakfast foods, pet items, boxed and canned foods, personal care items, cleaning items, etc.

I moved on from this method to using file folders to hold the entire insert. I would date the front of each insert and place it in the corresponding dated folder. When I needed a coupon for my shopping trip, I would then clip it. This did save a lot of time on clipping!!

I have now moved back to using my folder, but it's a bit different this time. I am now alphabetizing my coupons in two sections: Food and non-Food. My reason for this is I want to be able to take my binder to the store with me. Having all those coupons alphabetized makes finding them so much easier! I have found both my Walgreen's and Fry's put things on clearance from time to time. I find myself thinking that some of these items would be a smoking deal if only I had my coupon with me!! In fact, several times I've gone home to get my coupon and then returned to the store to get the items!!

Tip #3 Be Patient

This used to be a tough one for me. Sales at your grocery store will come around again. When things are on sale and you have a coupon, that is the time to work on building your "stockpile". I'm not saying to stockpile for years, just for several weeks, to get you through until the item comes back on sale! It just makes sense to stock up on, let's say canned veggies when they are $0.38 per can rather than $0.99! As you build up your pantry stash, you'll find you need to purchase less when things aren't on sale!

I've always been teased about having a love affair with Clearance! I've had this love of mark downs since I started my first job at 16. Now, several years later, one of my favorite things to do is browse the clearance racks at Target, Kohl's, and JC Penny's. These three stores seem to have some great deals!

I went to Kohl's today with my mother-in-law to do some Christmas shopping. I was so thrilled to see that they were taking an extra 25% off their clearance items! Some things had an 85% savings! WOW! I was able to pick up a few shirts that my kids will absolutely love for really great prices! Since we live in Arizona, they can use them year round!

I was watching TV tonight and V8 advertised a $1.00 off coupon for their V8 V-Fusion! Go here to get one!! All you have to do is enter your email address and then you can print your coupon. I was able to print this one twice!

I wish we had this coupon last time we went to the grocery store. The hubby was looking for something different to drink and he opted for the V8. He liked it, so now I'll have a coupon to help save on my next purchase!

I have discovered that you can load coupons right on to those cards that you get at certain grocery stores! I keep coupons on my Fry's and Safeway cards. Coupons for cookies, toilet paper, toothpaste, frozen veggies, boxed potatoes, soups, icing, cereal, etc are available on all 3 sites. And the best part is that they stack with your paper coupons!!

STACKING: What is it?

Coupon stacking is using more than one coupon on one item purchased if your store's policy allows it. Coupon stacking is a store-specific opportunity to save even more money, and get some things for free. I love to stack coupons! I'm all about FREE stuff! :) I practice this most at Walgreen's. Just today I used 1 manufacturer's coupon and 1 Walgreen's coupon on dish detergent...it made the bottle $0.74!

Quick reminder!!! Fry's is still doing the super coupon deal (at least in the Phoenix Valley...call your Fry's or Kroger and see if they are, too)...all coupons are $1.00 AND they are accepting competitor's coupons. So if you get those Fresh-n-Easy coupons and don't shop there, take em to Fry's!!

Kroger has Cheez Its on sale for $0.99 in our area this week. Pair that up with the coupon from the 10-04 Red Plum insert, you can get 2 boxes for $0.24 each!!! My family goes through Cheez Its like water! I will definitely pick up several boxes this week!

An even better deal is the Colgate toothpaste. It is on sale for $1.00 a tube. Pair that up with the coupon from Smart Source on 10-25 and you can get the toothpaste FREE! In our area Kroger is bumping all coupons to $1.00.

We hit Wags today. The total bill was $50.68 BEFORE coupons. We paid $23.90 out of pocket and received $18.00 in Rapid Rewards! Not too shabby! We got some deodorant for free and shampoo/conditioner for $0.50 a bottle. We got a box of Zantac for better than free ($8.99 minus $1.00 coupon and then got $9.00 in RR). They had cereal for $1.75 a box and I found a coupon for $1.00 off of 2. Can't beat cereal for $1.25!! Especially the way our kids go through it!

For a limited time, Fry's is quadrupling coupons...and even better! If you have a 10 cent coupon, they'll make it a dollar! Such a great way to save! We're hitting Fry's after the kids get home from school today. I plan on loading up on whole chickens and beef.

I was up at midnight last night...and I had to look at this week's ads for Fry's and Basha's. Basha's has a great deal this week! Buy a chub of ground beef and get a loaf of french bread, a salad, pasta, and pasta sauce for FREE! You need the ad for the coupons, so grab one at the door if you didn't get one delivered to your house! I know we'll be taking advantage of this deal this week!

I'm still digging around for the best Fry's deals. Looks like a case sale for them...which means great savings and paired with coupons...even better!! They have Butternut Squash on sale this week, too...I found a recipe to make it "whipped". Can't wait to try it!

Our Find of the Day

Shhh.....you can't tell my kids about this one. CVS has a great deal right now with their Coke and Hershey's products. If you buy $20 of their participating products, then you get $15 off Aliens vs Monsters DVD that came out today. We went yesterday and got 4 bags of the Hershey's Halloween candy. We needed to get some for Halloween night so, why not? (Maybe I'll dress up to hand it out this year!) We received the coupon plus another coupon for $5 off our next purchase (their equivalent to Wag's Rapid Rewards). The video we purchased today came to a grand total of $1.17!! We're saving it for a Christmas presents for one of our younger sons!! I LOVE deals like that!!

Walgreen's is the BEST!! The hubs brought home the newspaper when he did his Sunday morning donut run. Walgreen's has some wonderful sales and pair some of them up with the Procter & Gamble coupons from the insert and you have products they essentially PAY you to take!! Here's some examples :

1. Vaseline Sheer Infusion Lotion ~ $6.99 ($5.99 with P&G coupon) then you get $7.00 in Rapid Rewards...so they paid $1.01!!
2. Gillette Fusion MVP Power or manual razor ~ $8.99 ($4.99 with P&G coupon) $6.00 in Rapid Rewards...they paid us $ 1.01!!

On the front of the Walgreen's flyer they mention several items that when you receive your Rapid Rewards, then they are FREE!! We hit 2 Wag's this morning. After getting all the RR's from the first one, our second trip cost us $14.00 out of pocket...and they gave us $16.00 more in RR's!! Before the cashier took off all of the coupons, our total was $74.00 (and some change). I just giggled after she took all the coupons off!! I love this stuff!!

Fry's list and the coupons looks great for this week as well!! One of the sources I use is couponmom.com. They have lists there of what is on sale and it's a great source for printable coupons. I'm so glad I found this site!!

We wowed the cashier!!

We did fantastic today with our grocery shopping! We hit both Albertson's and Safeway. At Albertson's we saved 67%! The biggest deal there for us was BIC SOLEIL DISPOSABLE SHAVERS. They were on sale for $2.99 and we had a coupon for $3.00 off! They were FREE!!! I was a tad disappointed that we couldn't find the new Hershey's Bliss candy bars ($0.25 each with coupon). I honestly wouldn't eat one myself, but the kids would have been thrilled with one!! Oh well.

At Safeway, we did even better!! 72% savings! This would have been better, but the hubby insisted that we didn't have any milk at home and we both were ready to call it quits on grocery shopping for the day (Fry's tomorrow!). So, we paid full price for milk :(. We also got another newspaper so we could get the coupons for the free razors at Albertson's. The picture shows all that we purchased at Safeway (minus the gallon of milk). We got all of that for $35.11...we saved $83.91! The cashier was surprised and told us good job. All I could do was giggle!! To top it all off, the register spit out 4 coupons for Capri Suns (10 packs)! I love coupons!!

Saving, Re-organizing, and Researching

We didn't do any grocery shopping last week! Things were just way too crazy. Sadly, I missed out on $0.07 hot dogs! UGH!

I found an old Fry's receipt from one of the hubby's shopping trips. His savings were 40%. Not too bad considering that was "pre-coupon days"!! We didn't do too much better this weekend...42% savings. We deviated a bit from our list and did some impulse buying along with picking up a few items we didn't have for two new recipes I want to try. Some of the items were on sale, but a few were not. I'm really hoping we don't have to do that too often after we have a good stockpile!

I've been doing more coupon researching. I've found several more sites! I'm hoping to be able to link them on here. I just want to make sure I'm not breaking any rules before I actually do that!! Soon I hope to have this site full of savings and maybe a few recipes for high protein low carb meals...that actually taste good!! I'm thinking this will involve me cooking more...I bet my family will love that! :)

Rumor Has It...

that there won't be any coupons this weekend!! I'm so disappointed! It's only my second week doing the coupon thing! Sigh...good news is that my hubby scored me some extra coupons this evening. He found them at the Urgent Care while waiting for our youngest daughter to get her wrist splinted (she broke it falling off the monkey bars at school).

On another note, I wanted to mention that at our closest Fry's store they built a gas station...we can get an extra $0.10 off per gallon of gas! I guess this is based on how much we spend at Fry's. Not too bad since we did so well on Sunday with our grocery savings...and then today with gas!

New lists are out...time to get my coupons from today's find all clipped and then get organized! Woo Hoo!!! I LOVE saving money!

Coupons. Who knew??

Apparently, not I!! Ok..I knew OF coupons...just never really used them much. I thought they were a pain in the rear to clip and sort...and then after all that, I'd forget to take them to the store. Or I'd take them and find that using them didn't make much sense. But I have learned the ERROR of my ways!! I never considered using them with SALE items! DUH!!

I have a friend who uses a subscription based "grocery list". I thought I'd look into it to see what it's all about. Well...I am in grocery savings heaven now! I found a free site that is very similar to the "pay" ones (there are a few out there!). I will be using both from here on out, I think!

Sunday, we got the local paper and I clipped every single coupon that I thought we might use. This included stuff I typically wouldn't buy...brand name lotions, make up, etc. I then went to both list sites and decided what I was going to buy this week. Cereal and yogurt were very good deals this week! $0.88 for yogurt!! Some cereals were only $0.50! YEAH! The kids devour cereal in this house and the hubby often uses it as a late night snack! We even got the puppies new treats for pennies!

We went to the 3 different grocery stores (all within 4 miles of our house) and were consistent with a 69% savings! Of course, the big trick is to stick to the list. Which, we did!
